💡 3 Lessons From a $15 Billion AI-Powered Capital Raise
A billionaire just gave us a masterclass in how to work with AI.
In a recently published Forbes article, Bitcoin Billionaire Claims He Made $15 Billion Using ChatGPT, Strategy executive chairman Michael Saylor says he used ChatGPT to help design a preferred stock that went on to raise roughly $15 billion.
AI helped Saylor design a preferred stock that gave Strategy a third way to raise money after share sales and convertible bonds ran out of room. His problem was that interest rates could push the price up or down, while he wanted the dividend to change instead and keep the price stable.
Saylor spent a few hours with AI in deep research mode, asking whether a monthly resetting dividend rate had ever been issued, whether securities law permitted it, and what the structure would need to look like. He rejected answers and pushed back repeatedly. His lawyers and bankers had already told him nobody does that. AI found no rule saying nobody could.
He describes the whole process in his Diary of a CEO interview.
What can we learn?
- Narrow input and checkable output win. Saylor never asked the AI how to raise money. He arrived with the decision already made and one unsolved piece inside it. To follow his example, ask AI for 10 versions of a blog title instead of asking it to write a blog post with data and references.
- Depth instead of breadth. Saylor spent four hours on one question, not four minutes on twelve. To replicate his approach, take one single decision that is blocking you and stay on it. Ask AI for the version that survives the objection you already know is coming.
- Hand the result to a professional. Saylor used the model to explore a structure his advisors had waved off, then handed the surviving idea to counsel who could confirm it. Do the same with anything that requires a professional opinion. Run contract terms, tax questions, and regulatory responses through AI first, then hand the results to your accountants or lawyers for the final call.
🤝 “AI + Fractional Role” Trend: A New Way to Grow Business
AI plus a fractional role is reshaping how businesses buy senior expertise.
San Diego fractional CFO Jason Hope told CFO Dive that building a client’s financial systems takes senior expertise, but running them month to month does not. AI widens that gap, and demand for fractional CFOs is rising with it.
The data backs him up. In an Upwork survey of business leaders, 77% said AI is increasing their need for specialized, fractional talent rather than traditional full-time roles. Across Upwork’s marketplace, skills explicitly tied to AI grew 109% year over year, measured from completed jobs and actual earnings.
Upwork’s Human+Agent Productivity Index explains why. Pairing humans with AI agents lifted project completion rates by up to 70% compared to agents working alone.
Business Talent Group’s 2026 High-End Independent Talent Report shows the demand side. Requests for independent talent are up 151% since 2021, and digital, data, and AI capabilities now touch a quarter of them.
Takeaways
Solopreneurs, this is a great opportunity. Position yourself as an expert who works alongside AI at a fraction of the cost of a full-time hire. Do not sell AI output. Sell your skillset that AI cannot replace, and show how you apply it on top of what AI can do.
Small businesses, before you post a full-time role, think if you can split it into a fractional seat augmented by AI. Make sure that every AI automated process has a human owner.
🛠️ AI Tool Updates to Try This Week
Ask Maps added food ordering, hotel search, and conversational business edits on August 6, 2026, so you can correct your listing hours by photographing your own storefront sign. Gemini Notebook now builds slide decks, spreadsheets, and PDFs inside the chat window, on Google AI Pro or Ultra, desktop only. Google Meet notes started capturing screenshots of presented content on August 3. Set that control before your next client call.
HeyGen
Video Podcast turns “any doc, link, or idea” into a episode with studio scenes, multi-camera cuts, and B-roll. HeyGen announced it in late July 2026. It sits under Apps at app.heygen.com/apps/video-podcast. One service page or case study becomes a publishable YouTube episode with no studio, no second host, and no editing timeline.
👯ChatGPT Made Opposing Posters Look Identical
Suffolk voters may have wondered if they were seeing double during election season. Two candidates relied a little too heavily on ChatGPT, producing campaign posters that looked very similar. Turns out, AI can make a designer’s job look pretty valuable.
Don’t let ChatGPT design your brand visuals!
